About Sovarant
Sovarant started as a personal recipe notebook kept in a farmhouse kitchen outside Plentywood, Montana, where the growing season is short and the winters are long enough that a well-stocked root cellar matters. Over time, that notebook turned into a small website, written for anyone cooking with the same short summers, hard winters, and wheat-country pantry.
We don't chase trends. Every recipe here is built around ingredients that are realistic to find in a small-town grocery store or a home garden: wheat, root vegetables, wild berries, and the kind of proteins — beef, bison, elk, venison — that show up in a Montana freezer.
Before anything is published, it's cooked at least twice: once to work out the recipe, and once more to confirm the timing and quantities are right. If a step is unclear or an ingredient is hard to find, we'd rather cut it than leave it in.
What Guides Our Recipes
Seasonal First
We build recipes around what's actually in season near Plentywood, rather than ingredients flown in from somewhere else.
Clear Instructions
Every recipe lists exact measurements, times, and temperatures — no guesswork left for the cook.
No Filler
We keep the story short and the recipe long, so you can get to cooking without scrolling past pages of preamble.
